En el contexto de la modernidad española este tema de estudio había permanecido hasta la fecha mayormente desatendido. Para llenar este vacío, desde 2013 el proyecto «Fotografía y arquitectura moderna en España, 1925-1965» (FAME), ha acometido una rigurosa y ambiciosa investigación. ¿Quiénes fueron aquellos fotógrafos? ¿Cómo trabajaban y colaboraban con los arquitectos y los medios? ¿Y qué tipo de fotografía realizaron? Estas son solo algunas de las preguntas que se han tratado de responder mediante la catalogación sistemática de fotografías provenientes de archivos de arquitectos, fotógrafos e instituciones. Este proyecto también puede ser considerado como un caso de estudio paradigmático de la necesaria y pertinente investigación multidisciplinar sobre esta simbiótica relación y el importante papel desempeñado por las narrativas visuales de la fotografía en el establecimiento y desarrollo de la arquitectura moderna. La idiosincrásica naturaleza de la arquitectura española añade señas de identidad propias a este cometido. In recent years, there has been increasing international interest in the relationship between photography and architecture. This research topic had mainly been unattended among the other concerns of modern 20th Century architecture in Spain. In order to fill this void, the granted Project «Photography and Modern Architecture in Spain, 1925-1965» (FAME) has been conducting rigorous and ambitious academic research since 2013. Who were those photographers? How did they work and collaborate with the architects and the media? And what kind of photography did they make? These are the kind of questions that have been answered by cataloguing photographs from the archives of architects, photographers and institutions. This project can also be considered an exemplary case study of the need to accomplish a serious multidisciplinary research on this symbiotic relationship and significant role played by photography’s visual narratives on the establishment and development of modern architecture. The idiosyncratic nature of Spanish architecture adds special substance to this undertaking.
