Resumen: This dissertation discusses the role of internationalization in the Spanish economy by analyzing which factors Spanish SMEs must take into account to build up their expansion strategies and which are the main organizations that support this process.
Throughout the paper, we observe the recent performance of the Spanish economy in terms of international trade, making a brief comment about its adaption to the pandemic effects during the last year. We analyze several factors that characterize internationalization, such as its benefits and barriers. Additionally, we will also look at different strategic plans and reports that show an extensive analysis of the Spanish foreign trade sector.
The main aim of the research is focused on the small-and-medium sized enterprises. It is of our interest to discover their current strategic framework and suggest which strategic plans of internationalization could suit them best when thinking about entering external markets.
Finally, we describe several internationalization instruments that offer different services and resources specifically for SMEs. They are fundamental for supporting their international projects and for providing guidance in their expansion activities.
