Notas: The valuation of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection has been evolving throughout the history, starting by being considered as potentially lethal to seeing it as a chronic disease. The main tendency that seropositive patients suffer from cardiovascular events, tumors or other pathologies is well known, but less is written about their bigger predisposition for suffering from mental illnesses such as anxiety or depression. The physical, mental and social consequences that cause the infection, or the virus’ neurotropisme itself may cause spirit and motivation disorders. This has a negative influence on the progression of the disease and makes the valuation of the psychological sphere of the patients necessary. Aims: To know the prevalence of anxiety and depression in HIV patients from the third sector of Zaragoza, as well as its association to socio-demographic and clinical variables, the adherence to the treatment and the immune situation of the patients. Material and methods: Transversal descriptive study in which we select all the assisted patients from Infectious Diseases Consultation in the Hospital Clínico Universitario (HCU) Lozano Blesa of Zaragoza, all Thursdays from November 2017 to April 2018. Participants are interviewed according to the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and socio-demographic and relevant clinical variables are collected. Results: Out of 107 participants, 60,7% are men and the age average is 45,6±9,1. 17,8% suffers from anxiety and 13,1% has depression. Statistically significant associations between suffering from these mental diseases and being unemployed, smoking, drinking alcohol, taking intravenous drugs or other drugs have been observed. Conclusion: the proportion of seropositive patients suffering from anxiety or depression is relevant enough to include its valuation in their continuous attention.
