ABSTRACT During the 16th and 17th centuries there were a
number of manuscripts containing compilations of recipes
for cooking, beauty and medicine. They were the so-called
female recipe books, dedicated to women and with an
anonymous authorship that, however, hides in many cases
women's names. In this work, the cooking recipes of four
Spanish women's cookbooks dating from these centuries will
be analyzed. Through the recipes, it will be possible to
study the food and cuisine of the time, in addition to
knowing the role that women played in society. The
occupation of the female gender was traditionally destined
to the domestic sphere, a fact that made women responsible
for the care of the family and the home, as well as
knowledgeable about the main feeding practices in their
environment, which are going to be main protagonists of
this work. Key words: Food History, female recipe books,
                       women, cookbooks, Early Modern History.",
