note = "Rapid maxillary expansion is considered an effective and
safe technique in growing patients with maxillary
compression. However, there are many dangers associated
with this treatment in adults, once the midpalatal suture
matures. Therefore, the conventionally used surgically
assisted maxillary expansion technique (SARPE) and, more
recently, the mini-screw assisted maxillary expansion
technique (MARPE) have emerged. In recent years, several
studies have evaluated the efficacy of both techniques, and
together with the evolution of CBCT and the study of the
degree of maturation of the midpalatal suture, guidelines
have been developed for making a decision on which
technique to choose. However, the success of a treatment is
not only measured by its immediate results, but is largely
based on the stability of the treatment. This is the reason
why this study compares the stability of both techniques
through a systematic review of the scientific literature of
impact by means of the search engines of the different
databases. A total sample of 12 articles was obtained after
applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, where the
changes obtained skeletally and dentoalveolarly at a
transversal level and in the airways, were evaluated. The
results obtained were similar for both techniques, which
leads to the conclusion that both treatments in young
adults with maxillary compression are stable. Finally, two
clinical cases will be presented that exemplify the two
disjunction methods compared in this study.",
