Businesses must focus beyond maximizing corporate economic profits, which are very important. They must internalize the fact that planning and governance-oriented strategies focused on promoting human health and well-being ensure a sustainable future. This study explores the influence exerted by trust in large companies and banks on the perception that technological development has on people’s life satisfaction. The research uses data from the World Value Survey (WVS) and the World Bank, contemplating six Latin American countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, in the period between 2012 and 2018. Our main results show that the lower the trust in institutions, the stronger the negative association with perceiving science and technology as making life easier, healthier and more comfortable in the near future. We also confirm that people who have very high levels of national pride tend to trust institutions. We also confirm that people who have very high levels of national pride tend to trust institutions. Finally, with this work, we contribute new empirical evidence to the current field of research on the influence of technological development on issues related to human beings, specifically in Latin America. 000123884 540__ $$9info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess$$aby$$uhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/es/ 000123884 590__ $$a3.3$$b2023 000123884 592__ $$a0.672$$b2023 000123884 591__ $$aENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES$$b159 / 358 = 0.444$$c2023$$dQ2$$eT2 000123884 591__ $$aENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES$$b66 / 182 = 0.363$$c2023$$dQ2$$eT2 000123884 591__ $$aGREEN & SUSTAINABLE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY$$b58 / 91 = 0.637$$c2023$$dQ3$$eT2 000123884 591__ $$aGREEN & SUSTAINABLE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY$$b58 / 91 = 0.637$$c2023$$dQ3$$eT2 000123884 593__ $$aGeography, Planning and Development$$c2023$$dQ1 000123884 593__ $$aEnvironmental Science (miscellaneous)$$c2023$$dQ2 000123884 593__ $$aComputer Networks and Communications$$c2023$$dQ2 000123884 593__ $$aRenewable Energy, Sustainability and the Environment$$c2023$$dQ2 000123884 593__ $$aHardware and Architecture$$c2023$$dQ2 000123884 593__ $$aManagement, Monitoring, Policy and Law$$c2023$$dQ2 000123884 593__ $$aEnergy Engineering and Power Technology$$c2023$$dQ2 000123884 594__ $$a6.8$$b2023 000123884 655_4 $$ainfo:eu-repo/semantics/article$$vinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion 000123884 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0002-7994-923X$$aGil Lacruz, Ana$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000123884 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0003-2807-3482$$aSaz Gil, Isabel$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000123884 700__ $$aBazán Monasterio, Víctor$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000123884 7102_ $$14012$$2650$$aUniversidad de Zaragoza$$bDpto.
