Las mujeres que se vieron abocadas al trabajo sexual, fueron en un primer momento concebidas como necesarias para la sociedad, viendo institucionalizado su oficio, lo que llevó a la creación de burdeles públicos. En consecuencia, apareció la prostitución ilegal, donde abundaban alcahuetas y rufianes. Sin embargo, con la celebración del Concilio de Trento hubo un cambio en la moral sexual, que criminalizó la actividad de las prostitutas. Este proceso terminó con la supresión de los lupanares públicos, pero no eliminó el trabajo sexual. En relación con ello, se crearon las casas de Recogidas para intentar redimir a las prostitutas, convertirlas en mujeres honradas y reintegrarlas en la sociedad.<br />Palabras clave: Prostitución, mujeres, burdel, moral sexual, casas de Recogidas, clausura.<br />Abstract: Prostitution during the late Middle Ages and the Modern Age underwent different changes in Europe and in Spain, and the analysis of these changes will be the aim of this project. The women who were forced into sex work were at first conceived as necessary for society, seeing their trade institutionalised, which led to the creation of public brothels. As a result, illegal prostitution appeared, with an abundance of pimps and gossipers. Nevertheless, with the celebration of the Council of Trent, a change in sexual morality took place, which ended up criminalising the activity exercised by prostitutes. This process ended with the suppression of public whorehouse, but it did not put an end to sex work.
