000125141 520__ $$aRambla de Río Seco E is a lacustrine fossil deposit where it have been found fossil remains from a specimen of Amphimachairodus giganteus, a specimen of Metailurus major, two specimens of Thalassictis hipparionum of different size, a metacarpal from an indeterminate genus of a hyaenid, and a specimen of Promephitis parvus, thus being the first cite of a mephitid in the Miocene (Turolian) of Aragon. It can be therefore concluded that this fossil association is typical of the Hipparion faunas in Eurasia. From a paleobiological point of view, Amphimachairodus giganteus was the top predator and their principal preys were the herbivorous of the zone, probably bovids of medium size. Metailurus major was a secondary predator due to its smaller size. Hyaenids of Rambla de Río Seco E were mesocarnivorous like actual canids and the mephitid was a small insectivorous mammal. <br /><br />
