The Symptom Onset in Schizophrenia (SOS) inventory, the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale and the structured clinical interviews for DSM-IV diagnoses were administered. Generalized linear models compared the main effects and group interaction. 273 AOP (25.2 ± 5.1 years; 66.5% male) and 58 EOP patients (15.5 ± 1.8 years; 70.7% male) were included. EOP patients had significantly more prodromal symptoms with a higher frequency of trouble with thinking, avolition and hallucinations than AOP patients, and significantly different median DUP (91 [33–177] vs. 58 [21–140] days; Z = − 2.006, p = 0.045). This was also significantly longer in SSD vs. BD patients (90 [31–155] vs. 30 [7–66] days; Z = − 2.916, p = 0.004) who, moreover had different profiles of prodromal symptoms. When assessing the interaction between age at onset (EOP/AOP) and type of diagnosis (SSD/BD), avolition was significantly higher (Wald statistic = 3.945; p = 0.047), in AOP patients with SSD compared to AOP BD patients (p = 0.004). Awareness of differences in length of DUP and prodromal symptoms in EOP vs. AOP and SSD vs. BD patients could help improve the early detection of psychosis among minors. 000126276 536__ $$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MINECO-ISCIII-FEDER/PI11-00325$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MINECO-ISCIII-FEDER/PI14-00612$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MINECO-ISCIII/PI-080208-PEPs study 000126276 540__ $$9info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess$$aby$$uhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/es/ 000126276 592__ $$a2.175$$b2023 000126276 593__ $$aDevelopmental and Educational Psychology$$c2023$$dQ1 000126276 593__ $$aMedicine (miscellaneous)$$c2023$$dQ1 000126276 593__ $$aPsychiatry and Mental Health$$c2023$$dQ1 000126276 593__ $$aPhilosophy$$c2023$$dQ1 000126276 593__ $$aPediatrics, Perinatology and Child Health$$c2023$$dQ1 000126276 655_4 $$ainfo:eu-repo/semantics/article$$vinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion 000126276 700__ $$ade la Serna, Elena 000126276 700__ $$aMezquida, Gisela 000126276 700__ $$aCuesta, Manuel J. 000126276 700__ $$aVieta, Eduard 000126276 700__ $$aAmoretti, Silvia 000126276 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0002-9098-655X$$aLobo, Antonio$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000126276 700__ $$aGonzález-Pinto, Ana 000126276 700__ $$aDíaz-Caneja, Covadonga M. 000126276 700__ $$aCorripio, Iluminada 000126276 700__ $$aValli, Isabel 000126276 700__ $$aPuig, Olga 000126276 700__ $$aMané, Anna 000126276 700__ $$aBioque, Miquel 000126276 700__ $$aAyora, Miriam 000126276 700__ $$aBernardo, Miquel 000126276 700__ $$aCastro-Fornieles, Josefina 000126276 700__ $$aGarcía-Rizo, Clemente 000126276 700__ $$aGonzález-Díaz, Jairo 000126276 700__ $$ade Matteis, Mario 000126276 700__ $$ade Diego, Héctor 000126276 700__ $$aGrasa, Eva 000126276 700__ $$aRoldán, Alejandra 000126276 700__ $$aZorrilla, Iñaki 000126276 700__ $$aGarcía-Corres, Edurne 000126276 700__ $$aRuíz-Lázaro, Pedro M 000126276 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0003-2284-7862$$ade-la-Cámara, Concepción$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000126276 700__ $$aRivero, Olga 000126276 700__ $$aEscarti, María José 000126276 700__ $$aCasanovas, Francesc 000126276 700__ $$aToll, Alba 000126276 700__ $$aVerdolini, Norma 000126276 700__ $$aSagué-Vilabella, Maria 000126276 700__ $$aSugranyes, Gisela 000126276 700__ $$aIlzarbe, Daniel 000126276 700__ $$aContreras, Fernando 000126276 700__ $$aGonzález-Blanco, Leticia 000126276 700__ $$aGarcía-Portilla, María Paz 000126276 700__ $$aGutierrez, Miguel 000126276 700__ $$aZabala, Arantzazu 000126276 700__ $$aRodríguez-Jiménez, Roberto 000126276 700__ $$aSánchez-Pastor, Luis 000126276 700__ $$aUsall, Judith 000126276 700__ $$aButjosa, Anna 000126276 700__ $$aPomarol, Edith 000126276 700__ $$aSarró, Salvador 000126276 700__ $$aIbáñez, Angela 000126276 700__ $$aSánchez-Torres, Ana Maria 000126276 700__ $$aBalanzá-Martínez, Vicent 000126276 7102_ $$11007$$2745$$aUniversidad de Zaragoza$$bDpto.
