En lugar de morir, como ocurría en la conocida obra de Sófocles, Zambrano da voz a Antígona, que habla desde una tumba, pues esa es su condena: estar “ni en la vida ni en la muerte”. Desde este espacio emite su voz, la voz de quienes han sufrido el abuso del poder, la voz de personas que han sido excluidas de la sociedad solo por no acatar normas injustas.
