Resumen: This article explores approaches to religious architecture taken by the members of Grupo R and other architects in their circles. This research presents a novel proposal based on the analysis of initiatives linked to sacred spaces during the review of the Modern Movement. Special attention is paid to emergency churches designed by that group of architects and their supporters in newly created peripheral neighbourhoods of Barcelona in the 1950s and 1960s under the conceptual influence of French culture and, particularly, the journal ‘L’Art Sacré’.
