000131426 5203_ $$aFollowing Joaquín Costa’s hundredth anniversary, time has come to reflect the image and presence he has been maintaining in Aragon, sometimes remembered more as a myth or legend rather than history. As Labordeta’s still recent funeral asserted, the Aragonese regenerationist par execellence belongs to that multitude of names that are already part of the collective memory. Between Spain
and Aragón, from dictatorial positions to a fighting anarchism, several authors have used their names to build a certain trail of an instrumented legend. Up to this point, there have been many the historians who tried to fight against the myths that have been developing around his figure, especially through the manipulation of the epoch’s ruling class, which helped in building him some sort of a titan image, where myth and reality merged. The present work is trying to join that stream of historians, revealing Costa’s instruments, in order to get closer to the man who is hiding behind all the Manichaen rhetoric.
Tras el centenario de la muerte de Joaquín Costa es tiempo de reflexionar sobre la imagen y presencia que mantiene en Aragón, en ocasiones recordado como mito o leyenda más que como parte de la historia. Como se advirtió en el todavía reciente entierro de Labordeta, el regeneracionista aragonés por excelencia pertenece a esa multitud de nombres propios que ya son patrimonio de la memoria colectiva. Entre España y Aragón, desde posturas dictatoriales hasta el anarquismo combativo, diversos autores han usado su nombre construyendo una cierta leyenda instrumentalizada. Ante esto, han sido numerosos los historiadores que han intentado luchar contra los mitos que han rodeado su figura, en especial por la manipulación ejercida por las clases dirigentes del momento, que contribuyó a hacer de él una especie de titán, en quien mito y realidad se confundían. El trabajo aquí presentado pretende aunarse a esa corriente de historiadores, descubriendo esa instrumentalización de la figura de Costa, para acercarnos al hombre que se esconde detrás de toda retórica maniquea.
