Recent X-ray background levels achieved by these detectors in the CAST experiment have motivated further studies in the nature of the background levels measured. In particular, different shielding configurations have been tested at the Canfranc Underground Laboratory, using a microbulk type detector which was previously running at the CAST experiment. The first results underground show that this technology, which is made of low radiative materials, is able to reach background levels up to 2x10^-7 keV^-1 s^-1 cm^-2 with a proper shielding. Moreover, the experimental background measurements are complemented with Geant4 simulations which allow to understand the origin of the background, and to optimize future shielding set-ups. 000133053 536__ $$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/EC/FP7/240054/EU/ Novel Developments in Time Projection Chambers (TPCs) for Rare Event Searches in Underground Astroparticle EXperiments/TREX$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MICINN/CPAN-CSD2007-00042$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MICINN/FPA2008-03456 000133053 540__ $$9info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess$$aAll rights reserved$$uhttp://www.europeana.eu/rights/rr-f/ 000133053 655_4 $$ainfo:eu-repo/semantics/article$$vinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion 000133053 700__ $$aAune, S. 000133053 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0002-8921-910X$$aDafni, T.$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000133053 700__ $$aFanourakis, G. 000133053 700__ $$aFerrer-Ribas, E. 000133053 700__ $$aGarcía, J.A. 000133053 700__ $$aGardikiotis, A. 000133053 700__ $$aGeralis, T. 000133053 700__ $$aGiomataris, I. 000133053 700__ $$aGómez, H. 000133053 700__ $$aGarza, J.G. 000133053 700__ $$aHerrera, D.C. 000133053 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0001-6327-9369$$aIguaz, F.J.$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000133053 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0003-1163-1687$$aIrastorza, I.G.$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000133053 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0002-5352-1884$$aLuzón, G.$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000133053 700__ $$aPapaevangelou, T. 000133053 700__ $$aRodríguez, A. 000133053 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0002-3253-7027$$aRuz, J. 000133053 700__ $$aSeguí, L. 000133053 700__ $$aTomás, A. 000133053 700__ $$aVafeiadis, T. 000133053 700__ $$aYildiz, S.C. 000133053 7102_ $$12004$$2390$$aUniversidad de Zaragoza$$bDpto.
