Its resistance to methicilin/oxacilin gives them the capability to be SARM (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) or SAMS (Methicillin-sensible Staphylococcus aureus). SARM prevalence has progressively increased and nowadays constitutes more than 50% of the S. aureus isolations in infections. The role of SARM as a pathogen lies in its resistance associated to different antibiotic groups, which difficult the treatment of the diseases that it causes, increasing the cost that generates. The principal objective of the project consists in establish the prevalence of SARM-SAMS in the intra-extrahospital atmosphere, in the health area of Teruel. The research is based in an analytical descriptive study of all S. aureus isolations, from 1st of January of 2013 to 31st of December of 2013, in the Microbiology Laboratory of Hospital Obispo Polanco of Teruel. The most relevant data are for SARM (9,8%) and SAMS (14%) inpatient (into the hospital); SARM (13,8%) and SAMS (44,4%) outpatient (outside the hospital). There is a slight increase of SARM in 2009 from 28,1% to 41,6% in the health zone of Teruel. The internal medicine section (26,56%) presents the highest percentage of SARM, also the Rural Health Centers (26,56%) and the San José Hospital (26,90%). In conclusion, the Health Zone of Teruel presents higher prevalence of SARM inpatient that outpatient.
