Su verdadero origen de Radio Televisión Española el pasado 12 de octubre de 2024, día de la fiesta nacional de la Hispanidad, ha resucitado el debate sobre el origen social del almirante Cristóbal Colón. Después de una serie de pruebas genéticas, el citado documental concluía que la hipótesis más probable es que procediera de una familia de tejedores de seda judeoconversos que vivió en la Valencia del siglo XV. Dicha hipótesis está justificada por diferentes indicios que no entran en contradicción con la idea del origen humilde de Colón, aceptada por la mayoría absoluta de la comunidad científica. En ese sentido, Colón formó parte de una familia de tejedores de lana que emigraron primero a Génova y después a Savona procedentes del entorno rural de Liguria. El vacío existente de noticias sobre los primeros treinta años de vida del almirante desde su nacimiento en 1451 es lo que permite plantear nuevos retos de investigación.
The premiere of the documentary Columbus DNA. Its true origin on Spanish Radio Television on October 12, 2024, the day of the national holiday of Hispanidad, has resurrected the debate on the social origin of Admiral Christopher Columbus. After a series of genetic tests, the aforementioned documentary concluded that the most likely hypothesis is that it came from a family of Jewish-converted silk weavers who lived in 15th century Valencia. This hypothesis is justified by various indications that do not contradict the idea of Columbus' humble origins, accepted by the absolute majority of the scientific community. In that sense, Columbus was part of a family of wool weavers who emigrated first to Genoa and then to Savona from the rural environment of Liguria. The existing lack of news about the first thirty years of the admiral's life since his birth in 1451 is what allows new research challenges.
