This study brings to health research the consideration of psychosocial factors that influence the maintenance and change of health behaviors and conduct. From a primary care perspective, it is crucial to propose a biopsychosocial approach for the development of health promotion and self-care programs that embrace personal aptitudes as a relevant individual aspect. Objectives: To explore experiences related to personal aptitudes and personality traits that influence health behaviors and conduct, taking into account the social determinants of health, through a thematic analysis based on the capability-opportunity-motivation and behavior (COM-B) system. Methods and analysis: This qualitative research is carried out from a descriptive phenomenological perspective, based on 17 focus groups in which 156 people participated. Inductive and deductive analysis techniques were used following Lincoln and Guba’s criteria of methodological rigor. In addition to 7 different triangulations of analysts, 6 main categories were identified based on the COM-B system: psychological capacity, physical capacity, physical opportunity, social opportunity, reflective motivation, and automatic motivation. The importance of considering these factors to promote healthy behaviors was stressed. Discussion: This study examined how personal experiences related personal aptitudes and personality traits influence health behaviors and conduct in Spain. It was found that personality traits such as health literacy, self-efficacy, activation, and self-determination can influence the adoption of healthy behaviors. Likewise, the need for control, overthinking, and ambivalence made it impossible. Furthermore, social determinants of health and interpersonal relationships also play an important role. 000151547 536__ $$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII/FIS/PI19-00115$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII/FIS/PI19-00147$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII/FIS/PI19-00434$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII/FIS/PI19-00997$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII/FIS/PI19-01076$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII/FIS/PI19-01140$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII/FIS/PI19-01264$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII/FIS/PI19-01285$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII/FIS/PI19-01314$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII/FIS/PI19-01459$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RedIAPP/RD16-0007-0001$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RedIAPP/RD16-0007-0002$$9iinfo:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RedIAPP/RD16-0007-0003$$9iinfo:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RedIAPP/RD16-0007-0004$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RedIAPP/RD16-0007-0005$$9iinfo:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RedIAPP/RD16-0007-0006$$9iinfo:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RedIAPP/RD16-0007-0008$$9iinfo:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RedIAPP/RD16-0007-0009$$9iinfo:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RedIAPP/RD16-0007-0010$$9iinfo:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RedIAPP/RD16-0007-0012$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RICAPPS/RD21-0016-0001$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RICAPPS/RD21-0016-0003$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RICAPPS/RD21-0016-0005$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RICAPPS/RD21-0016-0009$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RICAPPS/RD21-0016-0010$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RICAPPS/RD21-0016-0012$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RICAPPS/RD21-0016-0018$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RICAPPS/RD21-0016-0022$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RICAPPS/RD21-0016-0025$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/ISCIII-RICAPPS/RD21-0016-0029 000151547 540__ $$9info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess$$aby$$uhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/deed.es 000151547 590__ $$a3.4$$b2024 000151547 592__ $$a1.027$$b2024 000151547 591__ $$aPUBLIC, ENVIRONMENTAL & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH$$b78 / 419 = 0.186$$c2024$$dQ1$$eT1 000151547 593__ $$aPublic Health, Environmental and Occupational Health$$c2024$$dQ1 000151547 591__ $$aPUBLIC, ENVIRONMENTAL & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH$$b78 / 419 = 0.186$$c2024$$dQ1$$eT1 000151547 655_4 $$ainfo:eu-repo/semantics/article$$vinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion 000151547 700__ $$aBerenguera, Anna 000151547 700__ $$aJuvinyà-Canal, Dolors 000151547 700__ $$aMartí-Lluch, Ruth 000151547 700__ $$aArroyo-Uriarte, Paula 000151547 700__ $$aTamayo-Morales, Olaya 000151547 700__ $$aMarcilla-Toribio, Irene 000151547 700__ $$aElizondo-Alzola, Usue 000151547 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0002-6409-9041$$aMéndez-López, Fátima$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000151547 700__ $$aChela-Àlvarez, Xènia 000151547 700__ $$aMotrico, Emma 000151547 700__ $$aGómez-Gómez, Irene 000151547 700__ $$aMoreno-Peral, Patricia 000151547 700__ $$aConejo-Cerón, Sonia 000151547 700__ $$aBellón, Juan Ángel 000151547 700__ $$aMagallon-Botaya, Rosa 000151547 700__ $$aAguilar-Latorre, Alejandra 000151547 700__ $$aBeltrán-Ruiz, Maria 000151547 700__ $$aOliván-Blázquez, Bárbara 000151547 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0001-8942-814X$$aDominguez-García, Marta$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000151547 700__ $$aRabanaque Hernandez, Maria Isabel 000151547 700__ $$aAndrés Esteban, Eva María 000151547 7102_ $$11006$$2255$$aUniversidad de Zaragoza$$bDpto.
