Notas: Resumen disponible en inglés: This paper examines the most important territorial claims over the South China Sea and the legal foundations that justify these claims under international law of the sea, tracing their historical evolution with special attention to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. This paper also seeks to relate the status quo of the South China Sea to its legal framework in international law, focusing primarily on the claims and actions of the People's Republic of China, as well as proposing various possible solutions to end the existing conflict.
