000153020 5203_ $$aA la primavera de 1932, l’estructura del Pavelló suís a la ciutat universitària de París va estar exposada a la vista, íntegrament, durant un curt període de temps. Les fotografies fetes en aquell moment permeten apreciar-la clarament: un entramat de perfils metàl·lics de quatre nivells apeat sobre una plataforma de formigó elevada, al seu torn, sostinguda per suports robustos també de formigó. Des d’aquell moment, a mesura que progressava l’obra, la part metàl·lica quedava camuflada sota successives capes de revestiment fins a quedar oculta del tot, mentre que el formigó es mantenia francament exposat. Segons imatges poc conegudes dels estats intermedis de l’execució de l’edifici, l’article revisa el dilema que planteja la relació entre la forma tècnica i la forma estètica i examina els termes en què Le Corbusier aborda i resol la qüestió. També s’estima la contribució dels seus col·laboradors, Pierre Jeanneret i Charlotte Perriand, i la influència de context cultural de les arts visuals al projecte, ambdues qüestions escassament apreciades fins ara. L’article contribueix a obrir una via de recerca on l’observació de les fotografies de l’edifici en obres és el suport per abordar una millor comprensió del determinisme de la tècnica en la concepció dels edificis: atesa la seva condició de poderós estímul per a la imaginació de qualsevol observador contribueixen a dilucidar la relació entre els mitjans constructius i els fins arquitectònics.
In the spring of 1932, the structure of the Swiss Pavilion in the university city of Paris was exposed to view, in its entirety, for a short period of time. The photographs taken at that time of the execution of the work allow it to be clearly appreciated: a framework of four-level metal profiles resting on an elevated concrete platform, in turn, supported by robust supports of the same material. From that moment, as the work progressed, the metal part was camouflaged under successive layers of coating until it was completely hidden, while the concrete remained openly exposed. Based on little-known images of the intermediate stages of the building’s execution, the article reviews the dilemma posed by the relationship between technical form and aesthetic form and examines the terms in which Le Corbusier approaches and resolves the issue. It is also estimated the contribution of his collaborators, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, and the influence of the cultural context of the visual arts on the project, scarcely appreciated until now. The article contributes to opening a path of research in which the observation of photographs of the building under construction is the support to address a better understanding of the determinism of the technique in the conception of buildings: its condition as a powerful stimulus for the imagination of any observer contributes to clarify the relationship between construction means and architectural objectives.
