note = "The objective of this work is to carry out a review of the
literature to examine the existing evidence on the efficacy
of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) in the treatment
of major depressive disorder (MDD). For this, a search of
scientific research published through different databases
such as Web of Science, Scopus, PubMED, Academic Search and
ScienceDirect was carried out. The search engine added the
terms “Acceptance and Commitment Therapy” AND “Major
Depressive Disorder”. The main inclusion criteria were
that they were articles published between 2010 and 2021 and
in which the main disorder was MDD. Following the search
and filtering procedure, 16 articles were collected for
analysis. In 11 of these studies, ACT was found to be
effective in reducing depressive symptoms, while in the
remaining five studies, both ACT and cognitive behavioral
therapy were found to be equally effective in reducing
depression. Furthermore, in 7 of the 16 articles,
psychological flexibility variables were used as process
variables and the result shows us that increasing
psychological flexibility is closely related to a decrease
in depressive symptoms. Key words: major depressive
disorder, acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive
                       behavioral therapy",
