note = "The paradigm of sustainability, and in particular the
Sustainable Development, has centered the speech and
initiatives in combating anthropogenic environmental
degradation since they first appeared in the Brundtland
report in 1987. Thus, the current paper reflects on the
major interpretations of this principle since its genesis
and interests behind them, firstly from a global
perspective to later focus on urban policies procedures,
considering cities are the main agent in the
decision-making process and the enclave where more than
half of the world’s population reside. In the same vein,
it analyzes one of the most popular proposals when it comes
to comprehensive urban sustainability strategies, the
eco-districts, an initiative that has been implemented in
many parts of the European and Spanish geography.",
