Resumen: Nowadays the debate in developed economies is no longer whether a digital currency will be implemented, but how to implement a central bank digital currency (CBDC). The common consensus is that a CBDC will inevitably be used as a means of payment. This article analyses EU strategy on stablecoins, bearing in mind the Digital Euro Project, the consequences of the expected adopting of the European Markets in Crypto-assets Regulation (MiCA) from 2024, and the implications for the banking sector of the implementation of the digital euro as a new means of payment in the Eurozone.
