000165476 520__ $$aThis module describes different factors related to consumer behaviour that influence food waste. First, it is established that the concept of food waste is related to the latest stages of the Food Supply Chain (FSC) and it is generally associated to retailers and consumer’s behavioural issues. The main sections of the chapter address consumer behaviours that influence food waste at household level, factors that determine food waste away from home, and finally the types of waste that occur in the distribution and sale of food. Understanding consumers’ attitudes, values and behaviours towards food would contribute to find the underlying motivations and behaviours of food wastage. That knowledge can help policymakers or social marketers in finding effective solutions and initiatives against it.
