This paper is focused on the improvement of the QoS of peer-to-peer TV (P2P-TV), and in particular, it proposes a methodology to minimise the impact of bursty traffic in the buffer of access devices using a traffic shaping technique. This paper shows how QoS can be improved by means of traffic shaping, specifically by using smoothing techniques. Some parameters such as packet loss, delay and throughput of a popular P2PTV application are analysed. The competition for the available bandwidth between the P2P-TV and some Transport Control Protocol (TCP) traffic flows is also studied. The results show a reduction in terms of loss percentage when the traffic of the P2P-TV application is smoothed, introducing small delays as a counterpart. 000166104 536__ $$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MINECO/TIN2015-64770-R 000166104 540__ $$9info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess$$aby$$uhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/deed.es 000166104 590__ $$a0.782$$b2019 000166104 591__ $$aENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC$$b234 / 265 = 0.883$$c2019$$dQ4$$eT3 000166104 591__ $$aCOMPUTER SCIENCE, INFORMATION SYSTEMS$$b145 / 155 = 0.935$$c2019$$dQ4$$eT3 000166104 592__ $$a0.334$$b2019 000166104 593__ $$aElectrical and Electronic Engineering$$c2019$$dQ2 000166104 593__ $$aComputer Science (miscellaneous)$$c2019$$dQ2 000166104 655_4 $$ainfo:eu-repo/semantics/article$$vinfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersion 000166104 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0003-0182-0652$$aSequeira, L. 000166104 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0002-5237-0447$$aNavajas, J.$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000166104 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0003-4690-6089$$aRuiz, J.$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000166104 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0002-6977-6363$$aSaldaña, J.$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000166104 7102_ $$15008$$2560$$aUniversidad de Zaragoza$$bDpto.
