It focuses on how temporal fragmentation, non-linear narration, and the interplay between fabula and syuzhet contribute to the viewer’s disorientation and active engagement. The analysis is based on the theories of Warren Buckland and David Bordwell, especially regarding the spectator’s cognitive role. In addition, the study looks at mise-en-scène elements such as lighting, the storm, the lighthouse, and cigarettes, considering how they reflect the protagonist’s psychological instability and reinforce narrative ambiguity. Overall, the dissertation argues that Shutter Island offers an open and uncertain viewing experience that questions narrative closure and blurs the line between reality and fiction.<br />--<br />Este Trabajo de Fin de Grado analiza la estructura narrativa y simbólica de Shutter Island (2010), dirigida por Martin Scorsese, desde la perspectiva de la teoría del puzzle film. El estudio se centra en cómo la fragmentación temporal, la narración no lineal y la relación entre fabula y syuzhet contribuyen a desorientar al espectador y fomentar su participación activa. El análisis se basa en las teorías de Warren Buckland y David Bordwell, y especialmente se centra en el papel cognitivo del espectador. Además, se analizan elementos del mise-en-scène, como la iluminación, la tormenta, el faro y los cigarrillos, observando cómo reflejan la inestabilidad psicológica del protagonista y refuerzan la ambigüedad narrativa.
