Cost-effective and energy-efficient solutions for flexible network subsystems are required to provide future sustainable networks. In this paper, we present a cost-effective dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) reconfigurable optical add/ drop multiplexer (ROADM) design enabling optical metro -access networks convergence. The cost-effective DWDM ROADM capabilities also have been assessed in an ultradense wavelength multiplexing (u-DWDM) ring network scenario. In particular, achievable network throughput has been considered.</dc:description><dc:date>2017</dc:date><dc:source>http://zaguan.unizar.es/record/167839</dc:source><dc:doi>10.1364/JOCN.9.001116</dc:doi><dc:identifier>http://zaguan.unizar.es/record/167839</dc:identifier><dc:identifier>oai:zaguan.unizar.es:167839</dc:identifier><dc:relation>info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/DGA/T25</dc:relation><dc:relation>info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MICINN/TEC2014-59583-C2-1-R</dc:relation><dc:relation>info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MINECO/BES-2015-074302</dc:relation><dc:relation>info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/UZ/CUD2016-18</dc:relation><dc:identifier.citation>Journal of Optical Communications and Networking 9, 12 (2017), 1116-1124</dc:identifier.citation><dc:rights>All rights reserved</dc:rights><dc:rights>http://www.europeana.eu/rights/rr-f/</dc:rights><dc:rights>info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess</dc:rights></dc:dc>
