000167877 5203_ $$aEn la década de 1920 Buñuel leyó Cumbres borrascosas de Emily Brontë y decidió llevarla al cine. Escribió varios guiones (1931, 1936, 1946 y 1953), hasta que, finalmente, consiguió rodar esta historia en México con el título de Abismos de pasión. Pese a las limitaciones económicas y artísticas de la producción, la película está muy cerca del espíritu de la novela. Buñuel subrayó la condición animal del instinto y las potencialidades demoníacas de las emociones, para componer una pieza imperfecta y al mismo tiempo esencial acerca de la íntima relación entre amor y muerte, entre libertad e imaginación.
In the 1920s, Buñuel read Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights and decided to adapt it for the cinema. He wrote several screenplays (1931, 1936, 1946 and 1953) until he finally managed to shoot the story in Mexico under the title Abismos de pasión (Passion's Abyss). Despite the economic and artistic limitations of the production, the film is very close to the spirit of the novel. Buñuel emphasised the animal nature of instinct and the demonic potential of emotions to compose an imperfect yet essential piece about the intimate relationship between love and death, between freedom and imagination.
