000170281 5203_ $$aThis discussion paper considers how the Glasgow Consensus Statement can be used to inform and improve policies that enable health professionals and health systems to reinforce humanity in healthcare. While healthcare professionals may not feel as if they have the knowledge or training to undertake advocacy, the paper highlights that many already possess the essential skills to shape and communicate policy. The paper outlines a dynamic and rapidly changing health policy context, where the voice of healthcare professionals is vital and is illustrated with examples from the work of medical associations. The final section considers policy relevant policy frameworks of institutions such as the World Health Organization and the European Union and recommends a coordinated and strategic approach to translate the principles of the consensus statement into policy to achieve a more human-centered healthcare.
