Notas: Theoretically, the establishment of the agenda-setting provides a broad framework about the impact on individuals produced by the media. Under this light, the media agenda determines to a significant extent which aspects concern and are believed by citizens of a particular society. Even though the influence of the mass media over the discourse argumentation is limited by individual variables, there are other elements, such as the way of naming the extralinguistic reality, whose effects are clearer. This paper aims to explore the construction of EUROPE’S IMAGE before and during the economic crisis of 2008 through the analysis of referential expressions across three of the main Spanish daily newspapers (ABC, La Vanguardia y El Pais).
