The aim of this paper is to determine whether there are factors other than income or education that can explain the larger number of children in Spanish Roma families. Our analysis reveals that the existence of a family business, which is highly labor-demanding, appears to be associated with parental decisions concerning the number of children. Since parental authority, in Roma families, holds sway over children even after their own marriage, the future labor contributions of children are particularly beneficial to the family business. 000048165 536__ $$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MINECO/ECO2012-34828 000048165 540__ $$9info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess$$aby$$uhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/es/ 000048165 590__ $$a1.29$$b2015 000048165 591__ $$aECONOMICS$$b105 / 344 = 0.305$$c2015$$dQ2$$eT1 000048165 592__ $$a0.896$$b2015 000048165 593__ $$aSocial Sciences (miscellaneous)$$c2015$$dQ1 000048165 593__ $$aEconomics and Econometrics$$c2015$$dQ2 000048165 655_4 $$ainfo:eu-repo/semantics/article$$vinfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersion 000048165 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0002-0679-6340$$aAndaluz, J.$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000048165 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0001-5858-4975$$aLarramona, G.$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000048165 7102_ $$14000$$2415$$aUniversidad de Zaragoza$$bDpto.
