000063509 5203_ $$aEl siglo XIX fue especialmente prolífico en artistas, muchos de los cuales no trascendieron o su talento no ha sido suficientemente valorado por la Historia del Arte. Pero era su contribución la que daba forma al gusto decimonónico, mientras trataban de ganarse la vida a través de su arte. Fue el caso de Máximo Juderías Caballero, que se adaptó al gusto del arte oficial, sometiéndose al mecenazgo de importantes promotores en España y a los circuitos del mercado del arte moderno en París. Por ello, su obra es un ejemplo representativo de todos los mecanismos que existíanen la Belle Époque para triunfar como pintor y también nos permite conocer a través de un caso concreto, cómo funcionaba el mercado de arte en esta época.
The 19th century was especially prolific in artists, many of which are forgotten or their talent has not been sufficiently valued in present Art History. But their contribution was shaping the taste of that time, while they were striving to earn a living through their art. That was the case of Máximo Juderías Caballero, adapting to officialdom, submitting to the patronage of important art patrons in Spain, and entering the circuits of the modern art market in Paris. Thus his work is a great example of all the mechanisms that existed in the Belle Époque to attain success as a painter and he also allows us, as a study case, to know better how the market of art worked in his time.
