However, a new approach based on consumers emotional abilities plays a fundamental role in the purchase decision of healthier food. This study analyses the impact of emotional intelligence in the purchasing decisions of food products with nutritional claims. To measure consumer preferences for potato chips with nutritional claims we estimated a Latent class model that allowed the identification of groups with similar preferences, which were also verified through individuals’ emotional and cognitive abilities. The main result of our study indicates that poor emotional ability has a negative influence on the purchase decision of potato chips with nutritional claims. However, it is the interaction between emotional and cognitive abilities that determines the purchase decision quality of food products. This study provides evidence on the use of emotional intelligence to define in a more precise way food purchase decisions. 000065296 536__ $$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/EC/FP7/332769/EU/Fighting against obesity in Europe: The role of health related-claim labels in food products/OBESCLAIM 000065296 540__ $$9info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess$$aby$$uhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/es/ 000065296 590__ $$a0.288$$b2017 000065296 591__ $$aAGRONOMY$$b81 / 87 = 0.931$$c2017$$dQ4$$eT3 000065296 591__ $$aAGRICULTURE, DAIRY & ANIMAL SCIENCE$$b53 / 59 = 0.898$$c2017$$dQ4$$eT3 000065296 592__ $$a0.143$$b2017 000065296 593__ $$aAgronomy and Crop Science$$c2017$$dQ4 000065296 593__ $$aVeterinary (miscellaneous)$$c2017$$dQ4 000065296 593__ $$aHorticulture$$c2017$$dQ4 000065296 655_4 $$ainfo:eu-repo/semantics/article$$vinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion 000065296 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0001-5480-183X$$ade-Magistris, T. 000065296 773__ $$g113, 4 (2017), 376-394$$pInf. téc. econ. agrar.$$tITEA-Informacion Tecnica Economica Agraria$$x1699-6887 000065296 8564_ $$s125208$$uhttps://zaguan.unizar.es/record/65296/files/texto_completo.pdf$$yVersión publicada 000065296 8564_ $$s87320$$uhttps://zaguan.unizar.es/record/65296/files/texto_completo.jpg?subformat=icon$$xicon$$yVersión publicada 000065296 909CO $$ooai:zaguan.unizar.es:65296$$particulos$$pdriver 000065296 951__ $$a2019-07-09-12:44:18 000065296 980__ $$aARTICLE
