Resumen: Breve presentación de la asignatura El objetivo principal de esta asignatura es generar en los estudiantes las competencias necesarias que les permitan analizar los aspectos más importantes de la cultura y sociedad en los países de habla inglesa desde la perspectiva de los Estudios Fílmicos. Esta asignatura, junto con las otras tres del campo de Estudios Fílmicos que figuran en el programa (“Teoría y Práctica del Texto Fílmico en Lengua Inglesa”, “Los géneros cinematográficos” y La representación”) intentan proporcionar al estudiante una amplia introducción a la disciplina de los Estudios Fílmicos y familiarizarle con algunas de las teorías, aproximaciones y metodologías de análisis más relevantes de dicha disciplina. En esta asignatura, en concreto, se explorarán algunos de los debates culturales y sociales mas importantes de las sociedades contemporáneas a través del impacto que han tenido tanto en el cine en lengua inglesa como en las teorías y metodologías cinematográficas. Tanto el cine como los Estudios Fílmicos desarrollan estrategias concretas para aproximarse a los fenómenos culturales y sociales de su contexto histórico. En esta asignatura se explorarán algunas de estas estrategias.

Abstract: Brief presentation of the course The main aim of this course is to provide students with the necessary critical tools that will allow them to develop the skills required for the analysis of the most relevant aspects in the culture and society of English-speaking countries from the perspective of Film Studies. This course, together with the other three in the syllabus belonging to the field of Film Studies (“Working with Film in English”, “English and US Film Genres” and “Issues in Representation”), seeks to provide students with a broad introduction to Film Studies by acquainting them with some of the most relevant theories, approaches and methodologies of film analysis. More specifically, this course explores some of the most significant social and cultural debates in contemporary societies that have had a strong impact both on cinema in English and on film theories and methodologies. Both the cinema and Film Studies have developed specific strategies to deal with social and cultural phenomena in their specific historical contexts. This course explores some of these strategies.
