We characterize the output two-photon field and make our calculations close to reality by including losses. Our proposal relies on real or artificial three-level atoms with a cyclic transition strongly coupled to a one-dimensional waveguide. We show that almost perfect down-conversion, with efficiency over 99%, is reachable using state-of-the-art waveguide QED architectures such as photonic crystals or superconducting circuits. In particular, we sketch an implementation in circuit QED, where the three-level atom is a transmon. 000075671 536__ $$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/DGA/FENOL-GROUP$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MINECO/FIS2012-33022$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MINECO/FIS2014-55867-P$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MINECO/MAT2014-53432-C5-1-R 000075671 540__ $$9info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess$$aAll rights reserved$$uhttp://www.europeana.eu/rights/rr-f/ 000075671 590__ $$a2.925$$b2016 000075671 591__ $$aOPTICS$$b21 / 92 = 0.228$$c2016$$dQ1$$eT1 000075671 591__ $$aPHYSICS, ATOMIC, MOLECULAR & CHEMICAL$$b11 / 35 = 0.314$$c2016$$dQ2$$eT1 000075671 592__ $$a0.0$$b2016 000075671 593__ $$aAtomic and Molecular Physics, and Optics$$c2016 000075671 655_4 $$ainfo:eu-repo/semantics/article$$vinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion 000075671 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0001-9273-8165$$aMartin-Moreno, L.$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000075671 700__ $$aGarcia-Ripoll, J.J. 000075671 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0003-4478-1948$$aZueco, D.$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000075671 7102_ $$12003$$2395$$aUniversidad de Zaragoza$$bDpto.
