Sin embargo, esta condición jurídica es difícil de aceptar para una comunidad de tanta importancia estratégica y tan rica en recursos. El análisis de la onomástica documentada por sus habitantes en la epigrafía nos permite formular la hipótesis de una promoción colonial latina que permitiría conciliar no sólo las condiciones geoestratégicas del enclave, sino la constante aparición de estructuras de duo/tria nomina romanos que se registran en la ciudad y que no pueden sustraerse de las formalidades jurídicas que le son propias
Since its conquest by Romans until the middle of the 1st century BC, Carthago Nova has been considered as a civitas stipendiaria. However, it is hard to accept this legal condition for such a community both strategically important and rich in resources. The analysis of epigraphically recorded onomastics of its inhabitants let us formulate the hypothesis of the promotion to Latin colony, which would reconcile not only the geostrategic features of the site, but also the constant appearance of duo/tria nomina onomastic structures recorded in the city, which cannot be isolated from their own legal implications.
