The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between family communication and verbal CPV through the mediation of adolescent perceived stress. The sample consisted of 2399 Spanish students of both genders between the ages of 11 and 20 years. Results show that problematic family communication is a risk factor for the presence of verbally abusive behavior towards parents, with a direct and indirect relationship through perceived stress. Open family communication is presented as a protective factor against verbally abusive behavior due to a negative relationship with perceived stress. Results point to a mediating role of perceived stress, which would explain the mechanism which links the quality of family communication to verbal violence towards parents. Implications of these results are discussed. 000087745 536__ $$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MINECO-FEDER/PSI2015-65683-P 000087745 540__ $$9info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess$$aby$$uhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/es/ 000087745 590__ $$a2.849$$b2019 000087745 591__ $$aPUBLIC, ENVIRONMENTAL & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH$$b32 / 170 = 0.188$$c2019$$dQ1$$eT1 000087745 591__ $$aENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES$$b105 / 265 = 0.396$$c2019$$dQ2$$eT2 000087745 591__ $$aPUBLIC, ENVIRONMENTAL & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH$$b58 / 193 = 0.301$$c2019$$dQ2$$eT1 000087745 592__ $$a0.739$$b2019 000087745 593__ $$aHealth, Toxicology and Mutagenesis$$c2019$$dQ2 000087745 593__ $$aPublic Health, Environmental and Occupational Health$$c2019$$dQ2 000087745 593__ $$aPollution$$c2019$$dQ2 000087745 655_4 $$ainfo:eu-repo/semantics/article$$vinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion 000087745 700__ $$aEstévez, Estefanía 000087745 700__ $$aVelilla, Coral M. 000087745 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0003-4417-5470$$aMartín-Albo, José$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000087745 700__ $$aMartínez, María Luisa 000087745 7102_ $$14009$$2735$$aUniversidad de Zaragoza$$bDpto.
