Resumen: This paper describes the implementation and results of a teaching proposal for the improvement of laboratory protocols for the microscopic observation of cells and cellular processes. Students were presented with a problematic situation of an apparently technical nature and instructed to apply their scientific knowledge, compare different models, analyse the results, formulate arguments based on them, and make proposals for improvement. In this way, students were made aware of the difficulties associated with research practice, taught to normalise error and uncertainty, and encouraged to respond to problems using critical thinking.
