Self-reflective museums and (meta)museographical reappraisals: The special case of museums of contemporary art
Resumen: Postmodern taste for self-referentiality has reached museums, which are no longer content with showing off their dazzling buildings and collections to society, but also want to draw attention to themselves.
The museum's autobiographical account is also given more and more prominence, either in an introductory room or in exhibition spaces dedicated to reviewing the past, present and future of the institution. In some cases there are even spaces where a reflection of / about the relativity of museological criteria is presented! On the other hand some curatorial uses are specially the raising interest for documenting former museum displays, considering them as a historic heritage worthy of being made explicit.
