First report of a Bartholin’s gland abscess caused by Capnocytophaga ochracea
Resumen: Capnocytophaga species are facultative anaerobic, capnophilic, slow-growing, Gram-negative bacilli that typically form part of the oral microbiota. However, their role in urogenital infections is poorly understood. We report the first case of a Bartholin’s gland abscess caused by Capnocytophaga ochracea in a 48-year-old immunocompetent woman. Identification was achieved by MALDI-TOF MS and confirmed by 16 S rRNA sequencing. The patient recovered fully after surgical drainage without additional antimicrobial therapy. This case expands the clinical spectrum of Capnocytophaga infections and raises questions about potential colonization routes, emphasizing the importance of advanced microbiological techniques for accurate pathogen identification.
