note = "In contemporary society, the institutionalization of older
adults is becoming an increasingly common alternative for
families seeking care solutions. This growing trend
presents new challenges for social work professionals,
particularly regarding the initial admission process into
residential care facilities. The present study aims to
explore the implications of the admission process on the
individual being institutionalized and to identify the
initial interventions carried out by social workers during
this critical period. The research adopts a qualitative
case study approach, utilizing structured interviews as the
primary method of data collection. The non-probabilistic
sample comprises three social workers currently practicing
in three residential centers located in Huesca, Spain.
Findings from the study suggest that the implementation of
a structured admission protocol grounded in a
person-centered care (PCC) framework can significantly
enhance residents’ well-being and quality of life.
Moreover, such protocols facilitate a smoother adaptation
to the institutional environment. In conclusion, the
analysis underscores the essential functions and strategic
roles of social workers in improving the quality of life
for newly admitted residents. Their interventions are
increasingly aligned with positive, evidence based
practices, with the PCC model serving as a central
reference. The study also identifies key areas for
improvement in the assessment and intervention strategies
employed during the admission phase, highlighting the need
for more comprehensive and person-focused social work
approaches.",
