Resumen: El nacimiento del héroe es uno de los motivos más significativos de todas las culturas y las tradiciones literarias derivadas de aquéllas. Los libros de caballerías asumen plenamente este motivo desde el paradigma del Amadís de Gaula. El ejemplo del Valerián de Hungría no sigue con exactitud los modelos previos caballerescos, pero sí que desarrolla algunos de sus aspectos más relevantes. Respecto a la educación del protagonista, se plantea una formación que comprende el adiestramiento militar, en consonancia con los espejos de príncipes, y también el conocimiento de lenguas y otras materias promovidas por el Humanismo, tal como se refleja en El Cortesano de Castiglione.
The birth of the hero is one of the most significant motifs in all cultures and the literary traditions stemming from them. Chivalry romance has fully adopted this motif since the Amadís de Gaula. As an exception, the Valerián de Hungría does not follow faithfully this motif as described in previous chivalry romances, although we can find some of its most relevant aspects. With respect to the education of the protagonist, it includes both military training in line with espejos de príncipes, and the knowledge of various languages and different subjects promoted by Humanism, as shown in Castiglione’s El Cortesano.
