SES was estimated from the parental educational and occupational levels, and the marital status. Fatness was assessed by body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR). Physical fitness components were assessed using the PREFIT battery. Preschoolers whose parents had higher educational levels had lower fatness (P < 0.05). BMI significantly differed across occupational levels of each parent (P < 0.05) and WHtR across paternal levels (P = 0.004). Musculoskeletal fitness was different across any SES factor (P < 0.05), except handgrip across paternal occupational levels (P = 0.05). Preschoolers with high paternal occupation had higher speed/agility (P = 0.005), and those with high or low maternal education had higher VO2max (P = 0.046). Odds of being obese and having low musculoskeletal fitness was lower as SES was higher (P < 0.05). Those with married parents had higher cardiorespiratory fitness than single-parent ones (P = 0.010). School-based interventions should be aware of that children with low SES are at a higher risk of obesity and low fitness already in the first years of life. 000086423 536__ $$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MEC/FPU14-06837$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MINECO/BES-2014-068829$$9info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ES/MINECO/RYC-2011-09011 000086423 540__ $$9info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess$$aAll rights reserved$$uhttp://www.europeana.eu/rights/rr-f/ 000086423 590__ $$a2.811$$b2018 000086423 591__ $$aSPORT SCIENCES$$b20 / 83 = 0.241$$c2018$$dQ1$$eT1 000086423 592__ $$a1.227$$b2018 000086423 593__ $$aOrthopedics and Sports Medicine$$c2018$$dQ1 000086423 593__ $$aSports Science$$c2018$$dQ1 000086423 593__ $$aPhysical Therapy, Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation$$c2018$$dQ1 000086423 655_4 $$ainfo:eu-repo/semantics/article$$vinfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersion 000086423 700__ $$aMora-Gonzalez, J. 000086423 700__ $$aCadenas-Sanchez, C. 000086423 700__ $$aBorras, P.A. 000086423 700__ $$aBenito, P.J. 000086423 700__ $$aChiva-Bartoll, O. 000086423 700__ $$aTorrijos-Niño, C. 000086423 700__ $$aSamaniego-Sánchez, C. 000086423 700__ $$aQuesada-Granados, J.J. 000086423 700__ $$aSánchez-Delgado, A. 000086423 700__ $$aDorado-García, C. 000086423 700__ $$aGarcía-Martínez, J.M. 000086423 700__ $$0(orcid)0000-0002-4303-4097$$aVicente-Rodríguez, G.$$uUniversidad de Zaragoza 000086423 700__ $$aLabayen, I. 000086423 700__ $$aOrtega, F.B. 000086423 7102_ $$11006$$2245$$aUniversidad de Zaragoza$$bDpto.
