Miradas sobre concepción arenal y descubriendo junto a ella su propio ángulo de mirar

Resumen: Concepción Arenal (1820 – 1893) ha dejado significativas aportaciones en derecho penal y penitenciario y en general para las ciencias humanas, sociales, políticas y para la filosofía ética y del derecho. Sin embargo, ha venido siendo interpretada desde perspectivas muy diversas y algunas de ellas han enturbiado su legado.Las manifestaciones que hicieron Rafael Salillas, Gumersindo de Azcárate o Francisco Lastres reconociéndose como sus discípulos, constituyen auténticos documentos históricos. El debate ante la opinión pública, sostenido por El Heraldo de Madrid en 1891 reclamando para ella un sillón en la Academia de Ciencias Morales y Políticas es un significativo testimonio del reconocimiento alcanzado en vida entre la élite intelectual del momento.El objetivo de este artículo es profundizar en el conocimiento de esta figura y algunas de las claves que sustentan su obra. Llevaremos la atención en tres direcciones: miradas dentro de su época; una mirada historiográfica renovadora después de que Concepción Arenal pasase los filtros del franquismo y también buscaremos junto a ella su propio “ángulo de mirar”.
Concepción Arenal (1820 - 1893) has left a significant contribution to the Penal and Penitentiary law, but also to the human, social and political sciences, and to the ethical and legal philosophy. Nevertheless, she has been understood from many different perspectives, and some of them have obscured her initial intellectual legacy.
Rafael Salillas, Gumersindo de Azcárate, or Francisco Lastres recognize themselves as their disciples in some manifestations that now are genuine historical documents. The discussion held by El Heraldo de Madrid on 1891 around endowing a seat into the Academia de Ciencias Morales y Políticas is a significant evidence of the intellectual elite recognition she received in life.
The aim of this article is to deep into the knowledge of the Concepcion Arenal figure and some of the key features of her work. The attention will be guided in three directions: glances into her time, a historiographical renewing glance after the franquism filtering, and her own “viewpoint”, which we will search by her side.
