ANALYSIS OF THE WEBSITES “ARAGÓN TURISMO/ARAGON TOURISM” AND CORRESPONDING BROCHURES “ARAGÓN ES CULTURA/ARAGON IS CULTURE”: MAIN TRANSLATION STRATEGIES USED IN THE ENGLISH VERSION.
Resumen: The aim of the present Final Degree Project is to analyze the translation of some problematic cultural and linguistic elements present in one of the sections of the Spanish “Aragón Turismo” website and its English-translated website “Aragon tourism” as well as their respective paper brochures “Aragón es cultura” and “Aragon is culture” with a view to seeing how the translation can contribute to the enhancement of comprehensibility for the reader of these tourism texts. Specifically, it aims to provide solutions to certain deficiencies that can be found in the published English translation of the Spanish corpus. For this purpose, an analysis of the English translation has been carried out, considering previous studies on the translation of cultural and linguistic elements. The analysis starts from the premise that some of the English translation samples that will be studied will have shortcomings that can be later improved by using some of the tools provided by the literature. Certain theoretical aspects of the literature concerning the translation of linguistic and cultural elements can be applied to tourism texts and can be used in many cases to improve the final translation. The last section in the project will develop the conclusions confirming the initial hypothesis.
