Notas: The mass media play a key role in defining society’s beliefs. Moreover, the existence of Islamophobia in Spain is real. As a consequence, Muslims, particularly North African immigrants, suffer the most with rejection from native citizens. This work is carried out as an analysis of various discursive tactics used by the Spanish national newspapers El País and La Razon, in 2013. We reveal that through a range of a biased selection of themes and sources, guised through a combination of techniques such as sensational headlines, a negative stereotype of the Islamic population is created. Via these means, the media propels an image of the Muslim people that Spanish society accepts, evidencing the close relationship between media content and Islamophobia.
