Gimnástica y deporte en las cárceles españolas para adultos a principios del siglo XX: Una mirada a través de Foucault
Resumen: The history of the 19th century prison in Spain was separated from an ideology of morality. During the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, the body was in the crosshairs of power from the technical-political sphere. The body, in prisons, was involved in a disciplinary system where there were strict power relations and control systems; Throughout his life in prison, the individual was subjected to disciplines that formed him, instructed him, places where he was constantly evaluated and confronted with the norms that governed society. The body in the Spanish prison of the early twentieth century was corrected, with the aim of transforming and channeling good behavior, it was educated in physical and gymnastic skills with the purpose of changing its destructive and barbaric attitude. Many sports devices came into play in prisons, among them soccer, providing an idealized image of Spanish prisons that sought to demonstrate to the outside a civilized normality that generally does not exist. The Spanish presidios were subordinate to the political service of the dominant governmental power and the prisoners did not enjoy the minimum human services of a State that showed no evidence of moving towards a true democratization of the country.
