Discursive creation in audiovisual translation: a case study
Resumen: This paper explores the technique of discursive creation in audiovisual translation, particularly in the context of translating humor. It discusses how this technique involves the introduction of new information in the target text to better align with the cultural context of the target audience, thereby compensating for potential losses from the original text. A case study of a scene from the sitcom Modern Family illustrates how discursive creation was employed in the subtitling process to enhance humor through a creative pun that reflects both source and target cultures.
